Do Over

So this weekend is the big party weekend at my alma mater.  I used to get a jones for the flat beer, cold rainy weather and drinking undergrads under the table. Also my friends and I have an in with a bar owner near campus still and drink for a good bargain.  My best friend in a fit of nostalgia sent me a "meeting invite" to go to the party next year.  I said no fucking way.  This is the same guy that I basically beg to drop his skirt and hit Vegas all the time.  I told him "no fucking way.  if you have time off we're going to Vegas"  and "I need to drink beer in the basement of a frat house like I need ass cancer."

I think I just grew up a little.  A little part of me died too. But come on.  We're both married and have 5 kids between us. Hanging out with undergrads all weekend is only going to get one or both of us divorced.

My take?

Every last one of you is childish and an embarrassment to yourself.

Friday at work

I woke to an earthquake this morning.  If you think trailer parks and tornadoes make for good quotes you should read what earthquakes do......

"The whole house started shaking and all my whatnots were falling," she said.

Maybe that Vikings/Cowboys trade was pretty fair after all.......

Dead Cat Bounce

I wasn't involved in the hand and in fact didn't even witness it, however I did join in a conversation between a floorman and the dealer involved.

Action is heads up. Player A has the action and Player B is in position, waiting to act.
Player B says "If you bet I can't fold."
Player A bets, Player B folds.
Player A calls the floor because he wants to enforce a call based on the verbal action.

Here is my question that I bantered back and forth with Easycure....

Is verbal action binding when you speak and the action isn't on you? For instance, if the action is on Player A and Player B says, "I will raise you if you bet", is that binding once Player A bets?

My thought was that your verbal action is not binding if the action isn't on you. Does anyone know the rule? Does it depend?

I am making a quick trip to Vegas in June. Friday to Sunday. I will be playing wingman to my usual partner in crime. Anyone aware or rates or deals on rooms? Please fill me in on the details of the needed secret handshake. I am not to aware of who all is going. I sent out a feeler to some people a while ago and got less than a lukewarm response.

The wife and I made a command decision. We are changing daycare providers. It is a painful and difficult decision and it has been keeping me up at night and eating away at my intestines (insert BG Joke here) for about 10 days now. My sleep is suffering, my work is suffering. I think I am managing to keep it together around the kids but man, I don't know why this decision is inducing this much stress.

The reasons for the change abound and don't include that we are decisively unhappy with our current provider. In fact we are fairly happy. Its just that with my son's birthday he has graduated to a new room. He is the youngest kid at 3.25 years and the oldest kid turns 6 in September. The activities and attention of the room are dominated by the older children. I feel that he will do better in an environment that is all kids his own age. My daughter is getting ready to graduate to a new room anyway so I don't feel nearly as bad about the change for her. She is just young enough that she hasn't formed the very strong bonds that she will have in another 6 months.

Complicating this decision is the fact that he will start the magnet school early childhood development program this fall. So we will be changing care providers twice between May and August. Not ideal.

Screwing with your kid's lives is a real stress maker. I know that he will do fine and in the long run be better off but still there is going to be some short term pains. The move is hard on us as parents. We have been taking our kids to that school for 3 years. We have friends there and have bonded with the staff. We have favorite teachers on which our daughter will miss out.

We go for an orientation session next week and are planning to take our son and introduce him to the idea of a new school.

The Art of Business

H/T - The blogger who formerly spent time catching the antichrist. I shall call him Triple Six, which will then get shortened to Triple and ultimately we will call him Trip, which makes me think of Jack Tripper from Three's company which will lead us to calling him Trey.
