Does anyone know about alternative fuel/energy sources for residential use? I am thinking of installing some solar power for domestic hot water. What else should I consider.
I am not ready to retrofit the whole place with solar powered radiant floor heat but would consider that in the future.
The place currently is heated via hot water radiators and a gas fired boiler. Anything I can do there that isn't too invasive?

Corn burner, high efficiency wood burner.
I do have a couple of relatives that have switched over to the heavy-duty wood burners and are very pleased with them.
While I do live in Missouri I am still in the City. The burner would have to be out on my lot (insurance would never let it in the basement) and the neighbors would object.
Besides, my whole goal is to do something that doesn't burn anything. Corn>wood>coal/oil, but its still burning.
My grandfather heated his house with a wood stove for years. My wife's Aunt and Uncle have a huge woodburner and they love it, of course they live on a farm.
I am looking for a photovoltaic or other non-burning systems. Seems like it will be a huge investment though that I have to couple with others such as windows and insulation.
You could inquire about nuclear energy from Iran.
